In 2010 Michigan GREEN received a grant from the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to implement a program designed to increase awareness of the types of CFL bulbs that are available to replace existing incandescent bulbs.
Michigan GREEN conducted audits of several businesses and residences throughout the state. Existing screw-in sockets were inventoried and appropriate CFL replacements were recommended and installed. Five businesses and three residences were chosen for case studies to better educate the public about proper use of CFL bulbs.

In 2010 as part of grant from the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), Michigan GREEN conducted a lighting survey for Mike Drews’ home located in Garden City Michigan.
By using the proper CFL replacement bulbs Mike Drews was able to reduce energy use in his home by 4,538 kWh per year and save over $540 dollars per year off of their utility bill while maintaining the look and function of the light fixtures in his home.

In 2010 as part of grant from the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), Michigan GREEN conducted a lighting survey for Keith and Kathy Lang’s home located in Canton Michigan.
By using the proper CFL replacement bulbs Keith and Kathy Lang were able to reduce their energy use in their home by 4,090 kWh per year and save over $490 dollars per year off of their utility bill while maintaining the look and function of the light fixtures in their home.

By using the proper CFL replacement bulbs Delft Theater in Escanaba Michigan was able to eliminate the high maintenance cost of replacing burned out incandescent bulbs in their marquee and reduce their energy use by 1,080 kWh per year while improving light levels. The combined maintenance and energy savings will save more than $380.00 per year in operating costs.
